“Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
DUMC recognizes that children are a vital part of our church today; as well as being the future of our church tomorrow. We believe wholeheartedly in the value of investing our time and resources into ministering to children at their level, so that they may know what it means to be a part of the body of Christ.
Believing that the responsibility for Christian training and spiritual growth of children lies within the family, DUMC provides opportunities for teaching, training and spiritual support for families.
Through our Tree House program, DUMC provides opportunities for children to learn solid biblical values, ethics and lifestyles in an atmosphere of unconditional love, while at the same time teaching children appropriate Christian boundaries. We believe in the importance of teaching children to know Christ as their savior in a personal way; and that Children must be presented with practical ways to apply the teachings of the Word of God to their everyday lives.
The teachers at DUMC is a very special group of people. Teachers work on a volunteer basis and give of their time and energies in ways many are never aware of. DUMC strives to ensure that teachers are trained and prepared to meet the unique needs, learning styles, and age-level characteristics of children from nursery to 5th grade. We believe that teachers should be able to teach, not only by the books and materials provided, but also by example in the modeling of their own lives and heartfelt attitudes. We believe that they should possess a general knowledge of the Bible and scriptures and that they understand and believe God’s salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
At DUMC we work diligently at creating various opportunities to help children develop fun, exciting, loving, peaceful and secure memories of church and of God. Memories that have a life-long impact on whether or not a child continues to return to church as they grow into adulthood. We strive to create an inviting and safe environment for children, encouraging the importance of the community around them and showing the love of Christ.
Fulfilling these goals and beliefs is an enormous task that can only be accomplished with the help of many people.
